An Opportunity to Intervene…by Nish Hartman, Healthcare Director, Predixion Software Active Blog – Predixion Team Jan 12 2015 0 0 Big Data Healthcare Predixion Predictive Analytics Imagine a standard of care where before the patient leaves the hospital, the institution already knows not just the patient’s critical data, but has also taken actions in response to the data that further reduce the risk of readmission within the next thirty days. The potential impact goes beyond delivering a more advanced quality of care. For institutions facing the radical industry shift to patient-based outcome models, predictive analytics presents an opportunity to make significant strides to decrease patient re-admission rates — and gain a stronger foothold in meeting compliance mandates the industry faces as a result of the Affordable Care Act. Think Like an Industrialist Active Blog – Predixion Team Aug 28 2014 0 0 Big Data Predixion Predixion Insight Predictive Analytics Data Mining Tom Blomfield was named one of the Top 5 Entrepreneurs Under 30 in Europe; in addition to developing for the Ruby programming language and co-founding GoCardless, he recently wrote a column for TechCrunch about “x-as-a-service” startups. He notes that tech startups are taking advantage of “more specialized and niche services” to get themselves off the ground faster and easier than ever before; he then compares the trend to the brick-and-mortar world, where it is significantly harder to access outsourced services without size to back you up. Here is his take on these differences: Read more …
Dell acquires StatSoft and the list of predictive platform vendors gets even shorter… by Simon Arkell, CEO, Predixion Software Active Blog – Predixion Team Mar 25 2014 0 0 Big Data Predixion Predictive Analytics Data Mining Statistics Yesterday it was announced that Dell acquired StatSoft, a 30+ year old business analytics software provider. Yes, you read that correctly. 30+ years old. That means that this innovative analytics company existed before the Internet, before mobile, before SaaS, before big data… So, why would Dell acquire an old analytics company? It’s no secret that big data and advanced analytics is the hot market to be in right now. Clearly one motive for a hardware-laden company like Dell is to continue to buy recurring revenue streams and nice margins, both of which they get from StatSoft. However, there is more going on here just below the surface. StatSoft, though old and not entirely innovative, has what very few companies in the market today have: a predictive platform. And, software vendors with an actual platform for building and deploying predictive analytics are a rare breed indeed. Read more …

Can We Wash Our Hands of Hospital Acquired Infections with Predictive Analytics? Active Blog – Predixion Team Mar 15 2013 0 0 Healthcare Predixion HAI Hospital Acquired Infections As I was getting ready to see my next patient, I began what has now become a familiar ritual for doctors and nurses everywhere, washing my hands, doing my part to not become a vector for disease. As I toweled off my chapped hands for the umpteenth time today, a thought occurred to me: how come we’re not better at preventing hospital acquired infections (HAIs) despite all this hand washing? Across the country doctors and nurses are scrubbing our hands until they are impossibly chapped, yet HAIs abound. We’re doing our part but not really making much of a dent. I wondered if there might be a way that our IT systems and the immense quantity of data we collect on each and every patient might lend a helping hand… Read more …
ACO Success Lies in Predictive Analytics Active Blog – Predixion Team Feb 07 2013 0 0 Big Data Healthcare Predixion ACO healthcare I find it hard to imagine that Accountable Care Organizations (ACO) are going to be as wildly successful as projected without an ability to actively use the data they are obligated to collect. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) require the average ACO to compile data on their patients and then use that same data to demonstrate that they’ve met the CMS requirements of data use, reporting and improving quality. If those requirements aren’t met… well let’s just say that ACO might not be around for much longer. Read more …
