Jean Wright, MD, MBA, is responsible for leading the advancement of innovation initiatives throughout Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS) as the Vice President of Innovation. Her focus is on working with teams to raise the bar for improvement in new clinical strategies, novel medical technologies, new business development, innovation design, and the spread of innovation across the system.

Prior to her role in Innovation, Dr. Wright practiced as a pediatric anesthesiologist and intensivist. She held positions as a physician executive at Emory (including vice president of medical management for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta), the chair of pediatrics for Mercer, and executive director for Memorial Health’s Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Savannah, and was the Chief Medical Officer for CMC-NE. Dr. Wright was also the principal investigator for the Southern Piedmont Beacon Community. In this role, she oversaw projects that provide innovative approaches to disease surveillance, management of chronic disease, sharing of health information, enhancing the ability of case managers to work more effectively with patients and providers, and demonstrations of novel ways to virtually connect with patients and providers.
She is also a health services researcher, has served on several federal advisory committees, and given testimony in the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate. She holds a BS degree from the University of Michigan, an MD degree from Wayne State University, and an MBA degree from Emory’s Goizueta School of Business.
