Requirements for On-Premise Deployments

Before you install or upgrade a Predixion Insight™ on-premise deployment, verify that your environment meets the following hardware and software requirements.

The following requirements apply to standalone and scale-out on-premise installations.

Infrastructure Dependencies

Client Hardware

CPU:

Minimum 500 MHz
Preferred 2 GHz or more

Memory:

Minimum 4 GB
Preferred 8 GB

Storage: 8 GB or more

Monitor: 1024×768 resolution or higher

Server Hardware

x64 processor architecture

CPU:

2.5 GHz or higher
Minimum 4 cores
Preferred 8 cores

Memory:

Minimum 8 GB
Preferred 16 GB

Storage:

Minimum 100 GB
Preferred 250 GB

Non-Predixion Software Dependencies

Client Software

Windows:

Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate
Windows 8 or later, Professional edition

You can also use Windows Server 2008 R2 with the latest service pack or Windows Server 2012 with the latest service pack, but it is not a requirement.

Excel*:

Office Excel 2010 (PowerPivot 2012)
Office 2013

*Excel must have been used at least once prior to installing Predixion Insight. On first use, Excel registers information that Predixion Insight uses during installation.

The computer on which you want to install the Predixion Insight Excel add-in, whether a cloud or on-premises deployment, can have only one version of Excel installed.

Excel from Microsoft Office Starter 2010 or Starter 2013 editions cannot be used with Predixion Insight because these Excel editions do not include all the features that Predixion Insight requires.

Predixion Insight supports Office Excel 2010 and Office Excel 2013 in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. However, whenever possible use the 64-bit version to achieve better performance, especially when using complex dataset and algorithms.

Browser:

Google Chrome and Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 or later.

Server Software

Windows (x64 processor architecture):

Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate. Home Edition does not meet requirements.
Windows 8 Pro or Enterprise, Windows 8.1 Pro or Enterprise. Home (premium and basic) Edition, Core Edition, Starter Edition,RT Edition, and Single Language Edition do not meet requirements.
Windows Server 2008 R2 – Foundation, Standard, Enterprise or Data Center Edition.
Windows Server 2012 – Foundation, Standard, Enterprise or Data Center Edition.

You can use only Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 when you install Predixion Insight in scale-out mode. All editions are supported.
Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8 Pro, Windows 8 Enterprise, Windows 8.1 Pro, and Windows 8.1 Enterprise are supported when not using scale-out mode.

SQL Server:

SQL Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2012, SQL Server 2014, SQL Server 2008 R2 Express, SQL Server 2012 Express or SQL Server 2014 Express. Some limitations apply to some versions and editions.

SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition and SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition must have SP3 installed to support clustering algorithms.
SQL Server 2008 R2 Data Center Edition, SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition, and SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition must have SP1 installed to support clustering algorithms.
SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Edition, SQL Server 2012 Business Intelligence Edition, or SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition must have CU4 or later or SP1 with CU2 or later installed to support association algorithms.
SQL Server 2014
SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with SP1 installed.

SQL Server 2012 Express with SP1 installed. This is the version that Setup installs.

Mixed mode clusters are not supported. The same version of SQL Server must be installed on the controller and agent nodes.

If you plan to use the SQL Server Analysis Services analytical engine, you can install only one version of SQL Server on the server.

Windows Server Requirements

Domain membership is required for scale-out installations or when you want to use domain authentication.
Microsoft Message Queue Service (MSMQ) is required. MSMQ queues are created by Setup when you install Predixion Insight.
Internet Information Services (IIS) is required because Setup needs to create three endpoints: Predixion.WCFService, PredixionWeb and PredixionAdmin.
Certificate issued from a trusted authority for SSL encryption or the self-signed certificate created by Setup.
Setup must be allowed to create a discoverable file share for hosting the Predixion BLOB storage.

Predixion Installation Account Requirements

The account that Setup uses to install must have local administrative permissions.

Predixion Service Account Requirements

You use one account for all Predixion Insight interactions. The account must have the following:

Full control permission on all message queues
Identity for PXEntuser IIS application pool
Service account used by Predixion Analytics Agent, Predixion Controller Service,SQL Server Database Engine, and SQL Server Analysis Services

The Predixion installation account can also be used as the service account.

SQL Server Components Requirements

These requirements apply to Predixion Insight standalone and scale-out installations and Predixion Insight Developer Edition.

SQL Server Installed Services

SQL Server includes the Database Engine,Analysis Services, and Integration Services.

SQL Server—Depending on which analytic engine (SQL Server Analysis Services or R) you plan to use, requirements vary. For more information, see SQL Server Requirements.
Analysis Services—Depending on the version of SQL Server you have installed, some SSAS features are not supported. For more information, see SQL Server Analysis Services Requirements.
Integration Services—Predixion account must have db_ssisoperator rights to execute packages with Predixion SSIS component dependency.

R Requirements

If you plan to use only the R analytic engine, you can use SQL Server 2008 R2, Express SQL Server 2012 Express or SQL Server 2014 Express. Setup can install R and SQL Server Express during the installation of Predixion Insight. For more information, see R Requirements.

.NET Framework Requirements

This requirement applies to Predixion Insight standalone and scale-out installations.

You must have .NET Framework 4.0 or .NET Framework 4.5 installed on the computer on which you are installing Predixion Insight. If neither of the .NET Framework is installed, you will be prompted to install before you can complete installation. You can download the .NET Framework from the Microsoft download site:
